The Indiana Pacers have released forward Samson Johnson, according to the NBA.com’s transaction log.
Johnson had officially signed his Exhibit 10 contract with the Pacers on September 23, though reports indicated that the agreement had been in place since late June.
The deal gave him a chance to compete in training camp and potentially carve out a path within the organization.
A 6’10” forward, Johnson spent four years at UConn, where he became part of one of college basketball’s most dominant programs in recent memory.
He played a key role for the Huskies during their back-to-back NCAA championship runs in 2023 and 2024.
As a senior, Johnson averaged 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 19.4 minutes per game, establishing himself as a defensive presence and reliable contributor in the frontcourt.
After going undrafted in 2025, Johnson joined Indiana’s Summer League roster in Las Vegas.
His playing time was limited, but in two appearances he tallied six points and two blocks across 16 total minutes, showing flashes of his rim protection and energy around the basket.
While being waived ends his brief stint with the Pacers’ NBA roster, it does not close the door on his future with the franchise.
Under the terms of his Exhibit 10 contract, Johnson is eligible to receive a bonus of up to $85,300 if he spends at least 60 days with Indiana’s G League affiliate, the Noblesville Bloom.
This structure allows the Pacers to keep him within their development system, where he can continue to refine his game and potentially work his way back toward the NBA level.
