The Philadelphia 76ers have promoted Mike Longabardi to assistant coach for the upcoming season, sources told HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. Longabardi previously served as head coach of the Delaware Blue Coats in the G League.
Longabardi brings a wealth of NBA experience, having won championships as an assistant with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016. He also held coaching roles with the Rockets, Suns, Wizards, Kings, and Hawks throughout his career.
Philadelphia’s front office views the promotion as a way to strengthen the coaching staff under head coach Nick Nurse. Longabardi’s defensive expertise and experience developing young talent were key factors in the decision.
During his time with the Blue Coats, Longabardi helped guide the team to playoff success and contributed to the development of players now on the 76ers roster. His NBA background is expected to complement the team’s existing coaching strategy.
