EuroLegue side Baskonia has added Markquis Nowell to its roster, securing the 25-year-old point guard for the upcoming season, per Chema de Lucas. Nowell, formerly with the Toronto Raptors, will bring his playmaking and NCAA pedigree to the team.
Nowell made history during his college career by setting the NCAA Tournament single-game assists record with 19. He also earned the 2023 Bob Cousy Award, recognizing him as the top point guard in NCAA Division I.
The American guard appeared in one NBA game with the Raptors in 2023–24, recording two points, two rebounds, and one steal in 3.5 minutes. Most recently, he averaged 17.3 points, 8.1 assists, and 3.1 rebounds over 33 games with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the 2024–25 G League season.
Baskonia new head coach Paolo Galbiati will integrate Nowell into a backcourt featuring Trent Forrest and Rafa Villar. The club aims to strengthen its point guard depth ahead of the Liga ACB and EuroLeague campaigns.
At 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in), Nowell is one of the shortest players on Baskonia’s roster but brings quickness and vision to the team. His ability to distribute and create plays will complement the talents of veterans such as Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and Tadas Sedekerskis.
Nowell’s addition marks Baskonia’s continued focus on combining young talent with experienced players. The team also features rising forwards Clement Frisch and Luka Samanic, along with established big men Khalifa Diop and Mamadi Diakite.
