Real Madrid confirmed on Thursday that new signing Theo Maledon has been added to the team’s official injury list. The 24-year-old point guard is sidelined indefinitely after suffering an adductor muscle injury in his left thigh.
While the club stated that “further medical tests will be carried out to determine the extent of the injury,” no firm recovery timeline has yet been established.
Maledon had only recently joined Los Blancos in July on a two-year deal, with high expectations surrounding his arrival following an impressive 2023–24 campaign in the EuroLeague. Instead, he now faces an early setback before even making his competitive debut.
The French guard came into Real Madrid’s preseason after representing his country in EuroBasket 2025, where he averaged 4.3 points and 2.2 assists over six games. France advanced through Group D in Katowice with a 4-1 record before falling to Georgia in the Round of 16 in Riga.
Maledon had previously helped France capture silver in EuroBasket 2022, while also gaining senior international experience in both the 2019 and 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.
Reflecting on his national team journey, Maledon said earlier this summer: “It’s always special to wear the French jersey. Even when the results aren’t what we hope for, you take pride in competing for your country. It gives me energy heading into the club season.”
At the club level, Maledon is already an established presence in European basketball. He owns 55 EuroLeague appearances, split between his breakout 2019–20 season and his 2023–24 return with LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.
Last year, he averaged an impressive 17.0 points, 4.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game, earning a spot on the All-EuroLeague Second Team.
Los Blancos, who open the 2025–26 EuroLeague Regular Season on September 30 with a road game against Virtus Bologna at Paladozza, had hoped Maledon would slot seamlessly into their backcourt rotation. For now, they must prepare without him.
Before coming back to Europe, Maledon also logged four seasons in the NBA between 2020 and 2024, appearing in 177 games with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Charlotte Hornets, and Phoenix Suns.
Drafted 34th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020, he was later traded to the Thunder, beginning his American adventure.
