Victor Wembanyama is expanding his presence beyond the basketball court, stepping into the world of animation with a new series titled Alien Dunk, according to Variety.
The 21-year-old San Antonio Spurs star recently completed motion capture sessions that will allow him to appear as an animated version of himself.
The project is being developed by PGS Entertainment, with France’s TF1 already committed as a broadcast partner. Additional networks across the globe are expected to acquire licensing rights in the coming months.
Animation duties will be handled by STIM Studio, the team behind well-known projects such as The Wild Robot, Garfield, and Tom & Jerry.
Alien Dunk blends basketball, comedy, and science fiction, placing Wembanyama at the heart of an intergalactic “Starball League,” where he and his companions compete to maintain peace in the universe.
For the French phenom, the concept reflects two of his biggest passions.
“Seeing myself animated is an incredible experience, and it brings together two things I love: basketball and space,” Wembanyama explained.
“The most exciting part is creating a universe for kids to enjoy, filled with fun, imagination, and inspiration for young fans all over the world.”
The series title is inspired by Wembanyama’s well-known nickname, “The Alien,” which highlights both his otherworldly skillset and unique physical profile. Producers believe his persona translates perfectly into a children’s series.
“Victor is an ‘alien’ not only for his exceptional athletic abilities but also for the positive values he embodies off the court,” noted Philippe Soutter of PGS Entertainment.
“These qualities make him a natural animated hero and the perfect centerpiece for Alien Dunk.”
Echoing that sentiment, TF1 Group’s head of youth programming, Yann Labasque, emphasized the show’s appeal to younger audiences.
“This series promises our young audience incredible adventures filled with action, sport, and science fiction in a very rich and exciting universe.”
While launching his animated alter ego, Wembanyama is also preparing for his third NBA season with the Spurs.
After overcoming a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder earlier this year, the No. 1 pick of the 2023 NBA Draft is ready to continue his rapid rise on the court – while now also reaching new audiences through the screen.
