Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Thomas Sorber has undergone a successful medical procedure to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, the team announced.

Rylan Stiles of Locked On Thunder reported the update Tuesday, confirming that the 19-year-old forward-center will miss the entirety of his rookie season.

Sorber, the 15th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, suffered the injury during an offseason workout on September 4. The setback halted his first professional campaign before it could begin.

The Georgetown product made history on draft night, becoming the first player in program history to be selected directly into the NBA after just one collegiate season. His strong defensive presence and interior scoring made him a key lottery pick for Oklahoma City’s long-term plans.

At Georgetown, Sorber averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 53 percent from the field.

ACL injuries often require a recovery period of 9 to 12 months. While Sorber’s timeline has not been formally announced, the expectation is that he will focus on rehabilitation throughout the 2025–26 season.

Oklahoma City has dealt with similar injuries before, most notably Holmgren’s foot injury that sidelined him for his first NBA season in 2022–23. The organization took a cautious approach then, and Sorber is expected to follow a similar recovery plan.
