Jayson Tatum believes there is a resemblance to the former NBA star Evan Turner, as shown in the highlight clip, per Tahj on X.
Similarity
Both competitors are stretch wings who can defend guards and bigs while having shooting touch in the mid-range and three-pointers. Tatum stands at 6-foot-8, while Turner was 6-foot-6, and also has a similar skill set in finishing and trademarks of jumpers.
When Turner joined the Boston Celtics in 2014, he could not meet the expectations of his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers, who sent him to the Indiana Pacers midway through the season. He came to Boston as a wing who had struggled to live up to being the second overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft.
Former Celtics head coach and current general manager Brad Stevens found a way to unlock Turner’s potential, as Turner averaged 10.5 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game in that highlight 2015 to 2016 season.
Meanwhile, Tatum came off with a different status. He was drafted as the third overall pick in 2017, starting his NBA career with significant experience in the Eastern finals postseason against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Despite different achievements and timelines, these two Celtics competed with the same approach to their position.
Where is Evan Turner now?
After 10 seasons and five teams, Turner aimed to apply his basketball knowledge to the business field, per Yahoo Finance.
In the second month of this year, the NBA veteran, who spent a decade in the league, joins Financial Freestyle with Ross Mac this week to discuss how he translates the game of basketball into the business world.
“The number one thing in regards to business, I [want to] identify myself as is a collaborator,” says Turner. “When I talk to people about business, it’s like, ‘Hey, you can’t do everything on your own.’ I want to work, figure out ways and solutions to work, and see how we can help each other and make… bigger moves.”
Last April 2025, he was reported to serve as the Portland Trail Blazers’ TV analyst for the Jazz season matchup. Turner is used to the mic as he has also been a co-host of the SB Nation podcast “Point Forward” along with Andre Iguodala.
