San Antonio Spurs rookie Dylan Harper has undergone surgery to repair a partially torn ligament in his left thumb, according to NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft sustained the injury during a workout on Wednesday. He had the procedure on Friday, with optimism that he will recover in time for the Spurs’ season opener on October 22 against the Dallas Mavericks.
Harper’s injury comes less than two months after San Antonio officially signed the former Rutgers standout. The franchise had high expectations for the 19-year-old guard following a standout college career.
At Rutgers, Harper averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game in the 2024–25 season while shooting 48.4 percent from the field. His size, athleticism, and ability to score at all three levels made him one of the most coveted prospects in this year’s draft.
The Spurs selected Harper second overall, pairing him with Victor Wembanyama as part of their long-term rebuild.
