The Golden State Warriors continue to show strong belief that Al Horford will sign with them once roster matters are finalized.

NBA insider Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report reported, via Ashish Mathur of Dallas Hoops Journal, that Golden State “still remain very confident” about securing Horford. The holdup centers on the organization resolving Jonathan Kuminga’s restricted free agency before locking in Horford.

Fischer noted that Horford could earn the full taxpayer mid-level exception and has been discussed for a possible two-year contract with a player option.

At 39, the five-time All-Star is an unrestricted free agent after completing his third stint with the Boston Celtics, where he averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 60 games during the 2024-25 season.

According to Anthony Slater of ESPN, the Warriors view Horford as their likely starting center for 2025-26. The plan would allow Draymond Green to focus less on battling bigger bodies during the regular season and stay fresher for the postseason.

Horford’s arrival would represent a balancing act. The veteran enters his 18th NBA campaign with 1,138 regular season games already logged. Golden State would likely restrict his minutes, sit him on back-to-backs, and schedule rest periods to maintain his effectiveness.

During the 2025 playoffs with Boston, Horford started nine of 11 games and posted 8.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, while shooting 40 percent from three. His ability to stretch the floor, facilitate from the high post, and anchor defensively continues to be valued despite his age.
