NBA free agency does not end this 2025 offseason, as more big names are listed in the upcoming year.
Lebron James and Austin Reaves for 2026 free agency are currently in discussion for contract extensions.
The four-time NBA champion accepted his $52.6 million player option, making him a free agent next season unless the Lakers re-sign him before the deadline.
James will be an unrestricted free agent next summer. If he does play an unprecedented 24th year in his career, it might be on the team that can win a championship, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Meanwhile, the 6-foot-5 guard was expected to re-sign with the franchise for $30 million, as he had told he wanted to be a Laker for life, via Spectrum SportsNet.
The franchise insider Jovan Buha explained that Reaves hopes to earn a contract that allows him what he thinks he deserves.
“People around the league are penciling him in to make $30+ million this summer, whether it’s with the Lakers or someone else,” said Buha via Spectrum SportsNet. “I expect it to be with the Lakers, I expect him to re-sign on a multi-year deal.”
“Austin wants to be in LA, and I expect that to be the thing. But I do expect the next contract to be like four years, $120 million next summer.”
The franchise plans to move into a rebuilding state as the team has a potential revamp of its roster as it builds its future.
James has reportedly spent his recovery from the start of this offseason after suffering a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee.
