Sebastian Telfair told TMZ Sports he hopes former President Donald Trump can help him avoid a six-month prison sentence this year.
The ex-NBA star is set to report to prison on Tuesday after violating his supervised release in a healthcare fraud case.
Telfair called the situation “definitely some bulls***” and believes if Trump hears his story, he’ll want to pardon him.
“Trump, go check in on my story and you’re definitely going to want to pardon me. You’ll hold me accountable and want me to continue to go do good. But I did too good to being sending anybody to jail,” he said in New York City.
Telfair, along with former NBA players like Glen “Big Baby” Davis, was accused of defrauding the league’s healthcare plan. He was initially sentenced to time served plus supervised release but was re-sentenced this summer after allegedly violating release terms.
He blamed the violation on a “paperwork” issue and called it “super unfair.” If Trump doesn’t intervene, Telfair said he’ll use his time in prison to improve himself and work on his book.
“I’m definitely mad I put myself in this situation,” he said. “But we definitely have got some wins coming. So, my fans, just hold tight.”
