The New York Knicks are aiming to lock up Mikal Bridges long-term as contract extension talks loom over the remainder of the offseason.
According to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post, securing a new deal for Bridges is at the top of New York’s agenda, with the forward eligible for a four-year extension worth up to $156 million.
Bridges, 28, joined the Knicks last summer in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, strengthening a core that already included Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns.
A Knicks front office executive told Keith Smith of Spotrac, “When you make the commitment to trade for a player like we did with Mikal, you do it with the intention of them being on the team for a long time. We hope to get something done.”
Bridges enters the final two seasons of his current four-year, $91 million contract, originally signed with the Phoenix Suns in 2021.
During the 2023–24 season with Brooklyn, he averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists across 82 games before being dealt to New York.
In his first campaign at Madison Square Garden, the former All-Defensive selection continued his ironman streak, starting every game and averaging 17.6 points while shooting 50% from the field.
He followed that with a steady postseason run, posting 15.6 points and 4.5 rebounds over 18 playoff appearances.
Since entering the NBA in 2018, the Villanova product has not missed a single regular-season game, reinforcing his value in a league where durability is increasingly rare.
