A New York Knicks front office executive expressed optimism about working out a contract extension with Mikal Bridges, who enters the final year of his current deal. Keith Smith of Spotrac reported the remarks, which followed the team’s trade acquisition of the forward earlier this offseason.
“When you make the commitment to trade for a player like we did with Mikal, you do it with the intention of them being on the team for a long time,” the executive told Smith. “We hope to get something done.”
Bridges, 28, is currently on a four-year, $91 million contract that expires after the 2025–26 season. He joined the Knicks following a season with the Brooklyn Nets, where he averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 2023–24.
In his first season with New York, Bridges started all 82 regular season games, contributing 17.6 points per game on 50% shooting. He also helped the Knicks reach the playoffs, posting 15.6 points and 4.5 rebounds over 18 postseason games.
Throughout his seven-year NBA career, Bridges has established himself as one of the league’s most durable and versatile wings. He has not missed a regular-season game since entering the league in 2018.
