The Boston Celtics have officially signed rookie guard Max Shulga to a two-way contract.
Shulga, the No. 57 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, was initially selected by the Orlando Magic before his rights were traded to Boston.
The 6-foot-4 guard spent the final two years of his collegiate career at VCU, where he started all 72 games and averaged 14.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists over that stretch.
Shulga’s efficient scoring and versatile playmaking made him a key piece in VCU’s backcourt, especially during the 2024–25 season when he posted career highs across several statistical categories.
The Ukrainian-born guard also impressed scouts with his development as a perimeter shooter, knocking down 38.7% of his three-point attempts on solid volume in his final year.
At the 2025 NBA Draft Combine, Shulga was among the 75 invitees, and his stock rose due to strong interviews and on-court decision-making.
While he didn’t post eye-catching numbers in the 2025 NBA Summer League—averaging 5.0 points on 24.1% shooting in 21 minutes per game—Boston sees long-term potential in his defensive instincts and passing feel.
As a two-way player, Shulga will split time between the Celtics and their G League affiliate, the Maine Celtics, allowing him to gain consistent minutes and refine his game.
