Before Marcus Smart finalized a buyout agreement with the Washington Wizards and ultimately signed with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Wizards were highly active in exploring trade possibilities for the veteran guard.

According to NBA reporter Jake Fischer, Washington engaged in “a ton” of trade conversations involving Smart, a former Defensive Player of the Year.

Several teams reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the veteran guard, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, and Miami Heat.

Among those discussions, Fischer revealed that the Wizards and Heat even explored a potential deal that would have involved guard Terry Rozier.

While no trade materialized in the end, the level of interest highlights the ex-Celtics standout’s value as a defensive anchor and experienced leader.

Washington eventually opted to pursue a buyout rather than move Smart via trade, paving the way for him to join the Lakers as a free agent.
