The Miami Heat believe they have added a major offensive weapon by acquiring Norman Powell in a three-team deal with the Utah Jazz and L.A. Clippers on July 7. According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, a Heat coach praised Powell’s skill set and impact, calling him “huge” for the roster.
“One of the best scoring guards we’ve had in the league over the last few years,” the coach told Smith. “He can get downhill off the bounce and he can play off guys as a shooter. He’s going to be awesome for us, because he’ll get a chance to do a lot of everything on offense.”
Powell, 32, is coming off a strong 2024–25 season with the Clippers, averaging a career-high 21.8 points per game while shooting 48.4% from the field and 41.8% from beyond the arc. He started all 60 games he played and also contributed 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per contest.
The veteran guard has built a reputation as a reliable scorer over his nine NBA seasons, winning a championship with Toronto in 2019 and excelling in playoff situations. He averaged 16.0 points per game during the Clippers’ 2025 postseason run, starting all seven games.
With over 600 career games played and experience in 91 playoff contests, Powell adds veteran leadership to a team looking to climb back into championship contention. His track record as a clutch performer makes him an intriguing fit alongside Miami’s stars.
