Chris Paul appears to be on the verge of reuniting with the Los Angeles Clippers, with momentum building around a deal that would bring the veteran point guard back to his former team.
According to Sports Illustrated, the consensus at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas was that Paul’s return to Los Angeles is “inevitable,” with sources close to the player and the Clippers indicating strong belief he will finish his career there.
During a Zoom media session on Saturday, Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank confirmed the franchise is “strongly, strongly considering” signing Paul, who remains a free agent.
The Clippers still have two roster spots open heading into the 2025–26 season but face tight financial limits, operating just $3.57 million below the first-apron hard cap.
That budget likely restricts the team to offering Paul only a veteran minimum contract, as noted by ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.
Paul, 40, is coming off a full season with the San Antonio Spurs, where he started all 82 games. His desire for a starting role could complicate negotiations, especially given the Clippers’ acquisition of Bradley Beal earlier this offseason.
Location is expected to play a significant role in Paul’s decision. He has previously expressed interest in staying close to his family in Los Angeles, a factor that naturally aligns with the Clippers’ pursuit.
Team officials have also indicated that adding another experienced playmaker to the backcourt is a priority as they round out their roster.
