The Washington Wizards made a strategic decision to limit the playing time of their top Summer League prospects, restricting most of them to just two games apiece.

This approach inadvertently placed a greater spotlight on AJ Johnson, who was given more opportunity to showcase his talents, as observed by Varun Shankar of The Washington Post.

Johnson, who was acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks in a February trade, had wrapped up the regular season on a strong note and was eager to use the Summer League platform in Las Vegas to further demonstrate his skills and make a case for a larger role moving forward.

The player’s performance did not go unnoticed. Wizards head coach J.J. Outlaw lavished praise on his defensive prowess and overall skill set, emphasizing Johnson’s ability to guard opponents effectively.

Outlaw said, “I think it would be hard for us to find anybody who’s not wearing a Wizards uniform out here that can stay in front of AJ Johnson. Such a talented player; he can settle for his midrange, but getting downhill is his thing.”

This shows Johnson’s skill on offense and defense. His ability to drive to the basket and defend well makes him an important player for the Wizards as they work to improve their team.
