The Los Angeles Lakers have been methodically addressing the roster needs voiced by Luka Doncic during this offseason, and sources indicate they are encouraged by the star’s direct involvement in shaping the team’s direction, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic.

While Doncic isn’t eligible to officially sign a contract extension until August 2, his active engagement in roster construction has been interpreted as a strong signal of his long-term dedication to the franchise.

Insiders reveal that the player specifically communicated to Lakers management that he wanted reinforcements in three key areas: a dynamic, rim-running center, reliable outside shooting, and overall improvements on the defensive end.

The front office has responded decisively. They secured center Deandre Ayton and sharpshooter Jake LaRavia in free agency, and they’re set to add veteran defender Marcus Smart once he clears waivers following a buyout agreement with the Washington Wizards.

According to Woike’s report, the Slovenian star personally reached out to both Ayton and Smart, playing a pivotal role in recruiting them to join him in Los Angeles.

Additionally, the Lakers recently released an interview featuring Doncic, where he expressed his deep commitment to the city and the team’s legacy, stating his desire to be remembered as “the guy that brought championships to the city.”

While the specifics of his contract extension remain under discussion, the ongoing collaboration between Doncic and the Lakers’ front office has fueled growing optimism that a new deal will be finalized before the upcoming season tips off.
