In a moment of candid reflection, Milwaukee Bucks GM Jon Horst addressed the pressure of building a title-contending roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo – and whether his front office has done enough.
“Have we done enough? We’ve done everything – I’ve done everything within my human possible power this offseason,” Horst told The Athletic.
The Bucks’ front office underwent one of its most aggressive offseasons in years, making the controversial decision to waive-and-stretch Damian Lillard, adding Myles Turner, and reshuffling their bench rotation.
Horst went on to express heartfelt gratitude for his staff, naming top executives and scouts by name:
“I’ve got to shout out Dave Dean, Ryan Hoover, Milt Newton, Pat Haneman, Samer Jassar, David Mincberg, and Arjun Mahendroo – the whole group. We work our butts off. We do everything we can to give Doc, Giannis, Bobby [Portis], Scoot [Kevin Porter Jr.], and the team every chance to win every night.”
Horst acknowledged that the success of the plan won’t be measured by spreadsheets, but by what happens on the court.
“So, have we done enough? I don’t know. We’ll find out. But have we done everything that we possibly could? Absolutely. And have we done more than anyone else could possibly do? I believe we have. And that’s not an arrogant thing to say – it’s in a very humble way.”
