Cam Christie credits teammates for defensive growth progress

Cam Christie, a second-year guard for the Clippers, is once again getting valuable playing time in the Summer League as he continues to develop his game.

Standing 6’5″ and coming out of Minnesota, Christie had limited opportunities during his rookie season in 2024/25, featuring in just 13 games.

Recently, he shared his goals for growth in the upcoming 2025/26 season, as reported by Law Murray of The Athletic.

The player emphasized that his focus is on improving his defensive intensity and shooting ability.

“I’m aware that our team already has strong ball handlers and scorers like James Harden and Kawhi Leonard, and solid big men like Ivica Zubac,” he said.

“So for me, defense is an area where I believe I can make a real impact. Consistent defensive effort can always benefit the team. On top of that, I want to enhance my shooting – being able to knock down open shots, help space the floor, and support our key players.”

He also highlighted the influence his teammates have had on his defensive growth.

Derrick Jones Jr. and Kris Dunn have played a major role in his development, alongside his older brother Max Christie, who currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks.

“I’ve learned a lot about on-ball defense just by watching Derrick Jones Jr.,” Christie explained. “We share a similar build, and since he’s a strong point-of-attack defender, I’ve picked up techniques from how he navigates screens and challenges opponents.

“My brother has also been a great mentor in that aspect, as he’s experienced in defending at the point of attack. Off the ball, Kris Dunn has taught me how to read plays better, break on the ball quickly, and execute traps effectively.”
