Jrue Holiday’s medical evaluations reportedly gave the Portland Trail Blazers pause before finalizing their trade with the Boston Celtics, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe.

League sources told Himmelsbach that “new findings” surfaced during Holiday’s examinations, though they were not serious enough to cancel the deal outright. The two sides instead adjusted the trade terms, with Boston moving forward without receiving the 2030 and 2031 second-round picks originally included.

Specific details about Holiday’s medical situation were not disclosed, but sources emphasized that the veteran point guard is continuing his usual offseason workouts without restrictions. He is expected to be fully healthy in time for training camp.

The initial deal sent Holiday to Portland in exchange for Anfernee Simons and two future second-round draft picks. Simons, who averaged 19.3 points and 4.8 assists last season, gives Boston added scoring and playmaking heading into the 2025–26 campaign.

Holiday, known for his defense and leadership, contributed 11.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Celtics last season. His departure also creates significant financial relief for Boston, with Bobby Marks estimating the team will save approximately $40 million in luxury tax payments.

The revised trade now excludes the 2030 and 2031 second-rounders originally headed to Boston, reflecting Portland’s caution after reviewing Holiday’s medical reports. Even so, both teams agreed to move ahead without delay.
