VJ Edgecombe made an immediate impact in his Summer League debut Saturday night, scoring a game-high 28 points for the Philadelphia 76ers in a narrow 93-89 loss to the Utah Jazz at Jon M. Huntsman Center.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft added 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal in 29 minutes. Despite his efforts, the Jazz held on late, improving to 1-0 in the 2025 Salt Lake Summer League.

Utah controlled much of the first half, building a 52-43 lead at intermission. Philadelphia tightened its defense in the third quarter, limiting the Jazz to just 14 points and trimming the deficit to four heading into the final period.

Edgecombe had a chance to extend the game in the closing seconds but missed a contested fadeaway three with six seconds left, sealing the Jazz’s win.

No. 5 overall pick Ace Bailey also made his Summer League debut for the Jazz. The forward tallied eight points, seven rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block in just under 25 minutes despite struggling from the field, shooting 3-for-13 overall.

Kyle Filipowski led Utah with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, along with six rebounds, two assists and a block. Brice Sensabaugh added 19 points, including five three-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds. Cody Williams contributed 14 points and five boards, while rookie Walter Clayton Jr. paced the second unit with nine points and six assists.

For the 76ers, Adem Bona scored 16 points with eight rebounds and a block, while Johni Broome and Justin Edwards each chipped in 13 points. Philadelphia dominated points in the paint, 48-30, but was hurt by 15 turnovers and a 4-of-22 showing from beyond the arc.
