Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors may ultimately reach an agreement on a short-term contract as the restricted free agent’s market continues to take shape, according to Jake Fischer of The People’s Insider.

Both sides reportedly anticipated that interest in Kuminga could unfold slowly, giving the Warriors a chance to retain the 22-year-old forward on a manageable deal.

Several teams around the league have shown varying degrees of interest in the player, including the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Sacramento Kings, and New Orleans Pelicans. However, each team faces unique complications that make acquiring him challenging.

The Miami Heat are said to be reluctant to meet Kuminga’s rumored asking price of $30 million annually. Miami is also juggling interest in other forwards such as DeMar DeRozan and John Collins, which could further complicate their pursuit of Kuminga.

The Chicago Bulls are also reportedly hesitant to take on a sizable contract for the forward, particularly with the Warriors showing no interest in a deal centered around veteran big man Nikola Vucevic, who had been floated as a potential trade piece.

The New Orleans Pelicans have expressed interest in Kuminga as well but currently lack a clear financial path to acquire him without pushing into the luxury tax, something the franchise is believed to be trying to avoid.

Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings are seen as a potential trade partner, possibly using guard Malik Monk as the centerpiece of an offer. However, no formal deal has taken shape with Golden State at this point.

As other suitors assess their priorities and financial flexibility, the Warriors remain in the driver’s seat to retain Kuminga, especially if the market for him proves softer than expected.
