The Detroit Pistons had been strategizing to clear sufficient cap space this offseason with hopes of pursuing Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid in free agency.

Reid, a skilled stretch big man, was seen as a strong fit for Detroit’s roster needs.

However, those plans took a hit when Reid agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract extension to remain with the Timberwolves, taking him off the market.

With Reid no longer an option, the Pistons are expected to shift their attention toward other frontcourt targets.

One potential candidate is Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Santi Aldama, a restricted free agent.

Aldama’s combination of size and perimeter shooting ability aligns well with Detroit’s desire to add a stretch big to complement their young core.

In addition to bolstering their frontcourt, the Pistons may also explore the possibility of targeting Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

Known for his defensive versatility and shooting, Alexander-Walker could provide valuable depth and two-way play in Detroit’s backcourt rotation.

Meanwhile, re-signing veteran guard Malik Beasley remains a top priority for the Pistons.

The team has been focused on securing Beasley’s return on a multi-year deal for several months, and that objective is expected to be one of the first orders of business as free agency unfolds.

Overall, while Detroit missed out on Reid, they remain active and flexible as they look to reshape their roster heading into the next phase of their rebuild.
