Speaking to The Athletic’s Tony Jones, Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey expressed great enthusiasm about the team’s newest draft pick, VJ Edgecombe.

Morey emphasized that the organization was thrilled to have had the opportunity to select him and believes Edgecombe brings a rare combination of athleticism, upside, and character.

“We’re super excited about V.J. and that we got the chance to draft him,” Morey said.

“He’s a dynamic athlete. We think he’s one of the best athletes in the draft. We think he has a chance to be a potential All-Star, and he’s going to be a two-way player coming into the league. He has a lot of winning qualities, and we think he is going to be a really good fit. We think he is going to be a great teammate.”

In other words, the Sixers see Edgecombe not just as an impressive physical talent but as a player with the tools to contribute on both ends of the floor from day one.

Morey highlighted Edgecombe’s elite athleticism, calling him among the top in the entire draft class, and pointed to his potential to grow into an All-Star-caliber player over time.

Beyond his physical gifts, Morey praised Edgecombe’s intangible qualities, such as his competitiveness, team-first mentality, and character, describing him as someone who embodies the type of winning culture the franchise is building.

The front office believes that Edgecombe will not only mesh well with the team’s stars but also enhance chemistry in the locker room and on the court through his work ethic and attitude.
