The San Antonio Spurs were once viewed as a realistic destination for Kevin Durant, with reports suggesting the superstar forward had included the Spurs among his preferred trade destinations.

However, Durant will now be heading to a rival team within the same division, rather than joining San Antonio.

According to Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express-News, the Spurs may have taken themselves out of serious trade consideration due to their unwillingness to part with major assets.

Specifically, San Antonio reportedly refused to include the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft or promising rookie Stephon Castle in any trade package for Durant.

That decision appears to have prompted the Phoenix Suns to explore trade options elsewhere, ultimately leading them to engage more deeply with other teams.

Although Durant was said to have an interest in San Antonio, multiple outlets have confirmed that the Spurs were not seriously involved in ongoing negotiations with Phoenix, effectively eliminating them as contenders in the Durant sweepstakes.
