Jake LaRavia has opened up about his future plans as he approaches unrestricted free agency this offseason, and he’s leaving the door open for a return to Sacramento.
The 23-year-old forward, who was traded to the Kings in February, appeared on the NBA Front Office podcast this week and discussed what he’s looking for in his next team.
“Those would be like my two ideal things like competing and building for a championship and like a fast-paced offense,” LaRavia said, via HoopsHype.
When asked if Sacramento meets those expectations, LaRavia replied, “Yeah, I think so.”
He pointed to the mix of veterans and younger talent in the Kings’ locker room, and also praised head coach Doug Christie.
“I think the Kings are building towards something. I think they got a lot of nice young pieces and vet pieces,” LaRavia continued. “I really did enjoy my time around those guys uh when I was there and I enjoyed my time around Doug Christie as well.”
LaRavia joined Sacramento as part of a three-team trade that sent Marcus Smart to the Wizards and Marvin Bagley III to Memphis. In 19 games with the Kings, he averaged 6.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and shot 38.5% from deep in 19.3 minutes per game.
Before the trade, he played 47 games with the Grizzlies, shooting a career-best 44.4% from three.
Despite Sacramento’s 40–42 finish, the team qualified for the Western Conference Play-In Tournament. With players like DeMar DeRozan, Domantas Sabonis, and Zach LaVine under contract, the Kings could be an appealing option for LaRavia if they offer a new deal.
The Wake Forest product is set to hit unrestricted free agency after completing a four-year, $14.8 million rookie contract originally signed with Memphis.
