Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic offered his first public reaction Thursday to the team’s record-setting ownership change, signaling full support for the transition while affirming his commitment to the franchise.

“The Lakers are an amazing organization,” Doncic posted on X. “I’m looking forward to meeting Mark and excited about the future.”

The $10 billion sale of the Lakers to billionaire Mark Walter became official earlier this week, marking the most expensive transaction in professional sports history. Despite the ownership change, Jeanie Buss will remain in control of basketball operations.

In his statement, Doncic also acknowledged the Buss family, saying he is “grateful to Jeanie and the Buss family for welcoming me to LA” and that he is “happy that Jeanie will continue to be involved.”

The 26-year-old guard was acquired by the Lakers in a blockbuster three-team deal on February 2 that sent Anthony Davis to the Mavericks. It was the first in-season trade involving two reigning All-NBA players.

Doncic has two years left on his current contract, with a player option for the 2026–27 season.

The Lakers finished 50–32, securing the Pacific Division title for the first time since 2020. However, they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.

LeBron James, who turned 40 during the season, has a $52.6 million player option for next year. His decision is expected to significantly impact the team’s offseason plans.

Walter, who also leads ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers and other major sports holdings, exercised his right of first refusal once the Buss family decided to sell majority control.
