The Houston Rockets have made it clear they are not willing to trade away key pieces of their core for Kevin Durant.
According to a report by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Rockets have shown no interest in parting with 22-year-old All-Star center Alperen Sengun or First Team All-Defensive guard Amen Thompson in ongoing discussions with the Phoenix Suns.
League sources told HoopsHype that while Houston could explore a trade package including Jalen Green and his $33.33 million salary for the 2025–26 season, Sengun and Thompson are considered untouchable.
Durant, who averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists over 75 games in 2024–25, has expressed interest in joining Houston. However, the Rockets are standing firm on keeping their two-way cornerstones.
Thompson, a defensive standout in his sophomore campaign, posted 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game during the regular season. He elevated his performance in the playoffs, averaging 15.7 points and 1.7 steals in seven games.
Sengun emerged as one of the league’s most productive big men, finishing with 19.1 points, 10.3 boards, and 4.9 assists per game. His postseason numbers rose to 20.9 points and 11.9 rebounds across 36.6 minutes per contest.
Green, who averaged 21.0 points in the regular season but struggled with efficiency in the playoffs, is viewed as the likeliest trade piece in any potential deal with Phoenix.
The Suns have reportedly done background work on Green, gauging his value in case they acquire him and decide to reroute him elsewhere, according to the report.
Phoenix, which missed the playoffs and finished 11th in the West, is aiming to restructure its roster around Devin Booker. The franchise has already explored trading Bradley Beal without success, and is now focused on finding the best return for Durant, regardless of his preferred destination.
Shams Charania reported that Durant has identified Houston, Miami, and San Antonio as his top landing spots. Minnesota, despite internal interest, is not under consideration from the 36-year-old forward.
The Rockets, who finished as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and won their first division title since 2020, are positioning themselves for long-term contention.
