Phil Pressey is set to take over as head coach of the Maine Celtics, the Boston Celtics’ G League affiliate, according to league sources cited by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Pressey, who is 34 years old, played college basketball at Missouri from 2010 to 2013 before signing with the Boston Celtics as an undrafted free agent.
During his NBA career, he appeared in 125 regular-season games over two seasons with Boston, and later had stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns during the 2015-16 season.
Between 2016 and 2022, Pressey continued his professional career by competing in the G League as well as internationally in leagues across Spain, Turkey, and Germany.
Throughout his NBA tenure, Pressey posted averages of 3.2 points and 2.9 assists in 13.6 minutes per game, shooting 34.1% from the field, 25.4% from three-point range, and 63.0% from the free throw line over a total of 148 NBA appearances.
After concluding his playing career in 2022, Pressey returned to the Celtics organization in 2023, joining the staff as a player enhancement coach under head coach Joe Mazzulla.
He has served in this developmental role for the past two seasons, contributing to player growth and team success.
Pressey will replace Tyler Lashbrook as head coach of the Maine Celtics. Lashbrook led the team during the 2024-25 season after spending the previous year on Boston’s NBA staff as a player development coach.
While it remains uncertain whether Lashbrook will continue with the Celtics organization in a different capacity or pursue new opportunities, he had a successful tenure at Maine, guiding the G League squad to a strong 21-13 regular-season record and a deep run to the NBAGL’s Eastern Conference Finals.
