Rival front offices are beginning to doubt whether Giannis Antetokounmpo will seek a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks this summer, despite initial optimism from several franchises hoping to land the two-time MVP.

NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that sentiment around the league has shifted in recent weeks. According to Fischer, team executives and agents who once expected the Bucks star to become available are now skeptical that a deal will materialize.

“Of late, I’d say that that confidence has been replaced with skepticism,” Fischer said, noting that Milwaukee’s internal decision on Antetokounmpo’s future is not expected until later this month.

The Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs by the Indiana Pacers, ending a season that began with championship hopes.

Despite capturing the NBA Cup in December, Milwaukee’s 48–34 finish and postseason exit have fueled speculation about a possible reset.

Milwaukee’s midseason trade of Khris Middleton to the Wizards raised further questions about the franchise’s long-term direction.

Veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein recently noted the Bucks are considering a retool around Antetokounmpo rather than pursuing a title next season, potentially treating 2025–26 as a “gap year.”

That uncertainty has kept teams like the Houston Rockets engaged, though with more caution.

The Rockets, led by head coach Ime Udoka, remain interested in acquiring Antetokounmpo.

Houston ended the regular season 52–30 and returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

Armed with draft capital and a deep young core, the Rockets have the assets to make a strong offer without dismantling their roster.

Toronto has also emerged as a potential suitor, with reports of “mutual interest” between Antetokounmpo and the Raptors’ front office.

Still, rival executives are increasingly convinced that unless Milwaukee opens the door, no deal will be possible.

Antetokounmpo, who is under contract through 2026–27 with a player option the following year, averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists on 60.1 percent shooting this season.
