After falling short in the Eastern Conference Finals, the New York Knicks are preparing for what team officials describe as a pivotal offseason.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the front office has scheduled internal meetings this week to assess potential roster changes as they aim to build on back-to-back 50-win seasons.
Charania said on ESPN’s SportsCenter that Knicks president Leon Rose is expected to remain aggressive in shaping the roster, noting Rose’s past acquisitions of OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Karl-Anthony Towns as indicators of his approach.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau has called it a “very important offseason,” with full support from franchise cornerstone Jalen Brunson and the rest of the front office.
New York finished the 2024–25 regular season at 51–31, securing the third seed in the East and defeating both Detroit and Boston in the playoffs before losing to Indiana in six games.
Despite inconsistent play at Madison Square Garden in the postseason, the Knicks’ ability to win on the road highlighted the resilience of their current core.
Their playoff success included dethroning the defending champion Celtics and advancing to the conference finals for the first time in 25 years.
The Knicks have made the playoffs in four of Thibodeau’s five seasons and are targeting significant upgrades to break through to the Finals.
Charania noted the team may explore adding either a marquee player or reliable bench depth, depending on trade availability and cap space flexibility.
