Olympiacos swingman Evan Fournier played a key role in helping his club secure third place in the EuroLeague, defeating their bitter rivals Panathinaikos.

With that achievement behind him, Fournier is now turning his attention to the conclusion of the Greek League Finals.

Only after that will he make a final decision about whether he’ll represent France in this summer’s EuroBasket tournament.

“First of all, I’m not thinking about it if I’m being honest because the season is not over,” Fournier admitted.

“Sometimes I do think about it but I never come up with a straight answer. Because the truth is I’m mentally here. Physically, I’m fighting some things. If I feel better and 100 percent and mentally I’m good, yes I’ll go to the EuroBasket. If I’m not feeling good, then I won’t.”

The French international acknowledged that his body and mind are feeling the effects of a longer and more grueling season than he’s typically accustomed to.

This year, the extended schedule with Olympiacos has shifted his approach to the summer.

“The furthest I’ve been into the NBA playoffs is second round. Usually I’m in vacation by May 1st,” Fournier said.

“So I have more time to heal, rest up, prepare my body for the next season. I have one month less at least [now]. It’s going to be a different summer. The season is not over so I’m not really thinking about that.”

As he remains focused on finishing the Greek League campaign, Fournier is deferring any long-term decisions.

While the door to joining the French national team is still open, it hinges entirely on his physical recovery and mental readiness once the domestic season officially wraps up.
