Making their first appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals since 2000, the New York Knicks have crafted a roster centered around two-time All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson, who has become the team’s anchor, according to Fred Katz of The Athletic.
Rather than holding out for a maximum-salary contract this summer, Brunson opted last offseason to sign a financially modest three-year extension. His decision prioritized team stability and created cap flexibility, giving the Knicks greater freedom to build a competitive roster around him in the seasons ahead.
Recently honored as the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year, Brunson has emerged as a steadying force in high-pressure moments, guiding the Knicks through their deepest playoff run in over two decades. His poise and leadership in tight games have been widely praised by teammates, including All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns.
“It’s great we have someone who has a calming demeanor like that, especially in those moments you’re talking about,” Towns said. “J.B. was the Clutch Player of the Year for a reason.”
Brunson’s performance in crunch time has been nothing short of dominant. During the first two playoff rounds, the 6-foot-2 guard has posted a staggering 46.1 points per 36 minutes in so-called “clutch” scenarios – defined as games with a margin of five points or fewer in the final five minutes of regulation or overtime.
As the Knicks open their Eastern Conference Finals series against the Indiana Pacers, all eyes remain on Brunson to continue delivering under pressure – a role he’s embraced with remarkable composure and consistency.
