Speculation linking Kevin Durant to the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason has been refuted by NBA insider Marc Stein.
Appearing on PHNX Sports, Stein stated that despite recent chatter, league sources have “strongly debunked” the idea that Philadelphia is pursuing the 36-year-old forward.
“There’s really nothing new at this point,” Stein said, clarifying that the Suns and Durant’s camp are expected to work together if a trade becomes necessary.
Durant remains under contract with Phoenix, where he averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists over 62 games in the 2024–25 season.
The Suns failed to make the playoffs, finishing 11th in the Western Conference with a 36–46 record, leading to the firing of head coach Mike Budenholzer.
Durant’s future has come under increased scrutiny after a disappointing season and internal shakeups, with the franchise now seeking its third head coach in as many years.
Despite those circumstances, Stein reported that Philadelphia is not among the teams exploring a potential trade for the former MVP.
The 76ers, who were eliminated from postseason contention in March, are entering an offseason of their own uncertainty after a 35–47 finish.
Philadelphia acquired Paul George last summer, but the team fell short of expectations and logged its first losing season since 2016–17.
Meanwhile, Durant’s decision may hinge on who Phoenix hires as head coach, as previously reported by Chris Haynes on “Haynes Briefs.”
Haynes noted that a respected coaching hire could keep Durant in Phoenix, though the Suns are expected to explore trade options regardless.
Shams Charania has reported previously that Phoenix intends to rebuild around Devin Booker, who averaged 25.6 points this season and remains the centerpiece of the roster.
Durant reached major milestones in 2024–25, including surpassing 30,000 career points and becoming just the second player to score 40 points against all 30 NBA teams.
With his résumé and production, the 14-time All-Star remains a high-value target should the Suns decide to initiate trade talks.
However, the idea of Durant joining the Sixers appears off the table for now, as confirmed by Stein’s latest report.
