A potential trade scenario involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and the San Antonio Spurs has gained traction following a report from Sam Vecenie of The Athletic.

Vecenie noted that while the Spurs are expected to keep the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, multiple league sources mentioned Antetokounmpo as a hypothetical trade target for San Antonio.

One Eastern Conference executive told The Athletic that pairing Giannis with Victor Wembanyama would make the Spurs “the favorite to win the title next year.”

The executive cited their complementary skills—Giannis’ power in the paint and Wembanyama’s perimeter versatility—as reasons why they could dominate on both ends of the court.

Antetokounmpo, who will turn 31 in December, averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists on 60.1% shooting this season.

He is set to begin a three-year, $175 million contract extension with Milwaukee starting in 2025–26.

Wembanyama, 21, posted 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and a league-leading 3.8 blocks per game in his sophomore campaign.

Despite the rookie head coach transition following Gregg Popovich’s retirement and a 34–48 record, Wembanyama’s impact kept San Antonio in national conversations throughout the season.

The Spurs have missed the playoffs for six straight years, but their young core, cap flexibility, and the No. 2 pick have positioned them as a potential destination if a superstar becomes available.

The Bucks, meanwhile, exited the playoffs in the first round for a second consecutive year after falling to the Pacers in five games.

Houston has also been mentioned as a team with interest in Antetokounmpo if the Bucks consider trade offers, according to league sources cited by The Athletic.

No formal trade discussions between San Antonio and Milwaukee have been reported, but the Spurs’ asset pool—including rising prospects and draft capital—could support a blockbuster offer if Milwaukee opens the door.
