The Memphis Grizzlies have expressed legitimate interest in signing European standout guard T.J. Shorts, who has garnered attention for his impressive play overseas.
However, according to Aris Barkas of Eurohoops.net, Shorts is likely to receive a much more lucrative offer if he chooses to remain in Europe.
While Memphis is prepared to offer him a guaranteed contract, it’s unlikely that the Grizzlies would be able to match the financial terms he could secure by staying abroad.
Barkas reports that if the player decides to stay in Europe for the foreseeable future, he could easily land a multi-year deal that offers a significantly higher annual salary than what Memphis might be able to offer.
Shorts could potentially secure a contract with a salary three times, if not more, what he’d earn in the NBA, should he stay in the European leagues.
With Shorts set to turn 28 in October, this presents a crucial decision for the guard. It’s understood that, considering his age and stage in his career, it may be difficult for him to pass up what could be the most lucrative contract opportunity of his professional life.
While the allure of the NBA and the Grizzlies’ guaranteed offer is tempting, the prospect of a more substantial payday overseas could ultimately be too difficult for Shorts to ignore.
