Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors earned his fifth playoff technical foul during Thursday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, tying the second-round series at 1-1. With two more technicals, Green will face an automatic one-game suspension, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.
Following the game, Green expressed frustration over his portrayal, saying, “I’m not an angry Black man. I’m a successful, educated Black man with a great family.” He also criticized the narrative around him, calling it “crazy” and “ridiculous.”
During the game, Green was called for a technical after making contact with Timberwolves’ Naz Reid’s head, a play similar to a previous technical he received in the first round. Warriors coach Steve Kerr explained Green’s actions as part of his effort to draw attention to fouls.
After the fifth technical, Green directed an angry outburst at the referees. Despite attempts from Stephen Curry to calm him down, Kerr substituted in Jimmy Butler to remove Green from the game, emphasizing the need for Green to remain composed moving forward.
Green, known for his history of technical fouls and suspensions, is also two flagrant points away from an automatic suspension. Any additional on-court incidents could be costly for the Warriors.
