Danny Ferry has officially interviewed for the Atlanta Hawks’ president of basketball operations role, marking a potential return to the same position he held from 2012 to 2015.

During his previous tenure, Ferry helped reshape the Hawks into a perennial playoff team, though his stint ended amid controversy. Since then, he has remained active in NBA circles, taking on various advisory and consulting roles.

After departing Atlanta, Ferry joined the New Orleans Pelicans in 2016 as a special advisor to the general manager, offering his experience and insight in a more behind-the-scenes capacity.

Most recently, he’s been contributing to the San Antonio Spurs as a consultant, a role he has held since 2020.

Ferry is among several high-profile candidates the Hawks have considered as they look to fill their top basketball executive role.

Others who have interviewed include Calvin Booth, formerly the lead decision-maker for the Denver Nuggets, and Monte McNair, who recently stepped down from a similar role with the Sacramento Kings.

Both executives bring championship-building experience and are respected across the league for their front office acumen.

In addition, the Hawks have reportedly shown interest in former Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers. However, Myers is widely expected to remain in broadcasting for the foreseeable future, rather than return to an NBA front office.

Whoever is ultimately chosen to lead Atlanta’s basketball operations will work closely with current general manager Onsi Saleh, who remains with the organization.
