Los Angeles Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank made it clear he expects both Kawhi Leonard and James Harden to return next season—but acknowledged the business side of the NBA could impact those plans.

Frank admitted he hasn’t seriously considered a scenario where Harden isn’t on the roster, though the 35-year-old guard holds a $36 million player option. “We were very, very happy with everything we wanted from James—we got it and then some,” Frank said.

Harden exceeded expectations, averaging 22.8 points and 8.7 assists while playing all 79 games. His 50-point outburst against Detroit in March sparked an 18–3 Clippers surge. “At his age, to deliver what he did… we have a deep appreciation for that,” Frank added.

Frank passionately defended Leonard, who played just 37 games due to knee inflammation but posted All-NBA numbers (21.5 PPG, 41% 3PT) when healthy. “In Kawhi’s sense, he [rehabs] times ten,” Frank said, pushing back against injury criticism.

The Clippers’ GM emphasized Leonard’s work ethic, saying chronic injuries aren’t a “character flaw.” He believes the two-time Finals MVP will return stronger: “There’s another level for him out there.”

Despite a Game 7 blowout loss to Denver, Frank remains confident in the duo’s championship potential. “If you have two top-15 players… I definitely believe in those two,” he said.

Harden’s decision (due by June 29) will shape L.A.’s offseason. But for now, Frank’s focus is clear: “I’m going in with the intent… to reach an agreement that works for James and the Clippers.”
