Bronny James reflected candidly on his rookie season with the Los Angeles Lakers, acknowledging the intense scrutiny that came with being the son of LeBron James.
In an interview with FOX Sports’ Melissa Rohlin, the 20-year-old admitted, “I was under a lot of pressure. It was getting to me a little bit.”
Bronny entered the league under historic circumstances, becoming part of the NBA’s first-ever father-son duo alongside LeBron when he was drafted 55th overall by the Lakers in June 2024.
His journey from a cardiac arrest during his USC tenure to suiting up with his father in the Lakers’ season opener marked a remarkable recovery.
Throughout the 2024–25 season, Bronny faced widespread criticism and frequent accusations of nepotism, often amplified by media voices like ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
Bronny also showcased his development in the G League, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.4 assists while shooting 44% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc for South Bay.
Despite finishing his NBA rookie campaign with averages of 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 27 games, Lakers head coach JJ Redick noted Bronny’s promising upside.
“With his physical tools and just his burst and his handle, we think he’s going to be an above-average to really good NBA shooter,” Redick said.
For Bronny, maintaining his focus amid the noise was critical.
“Keeping my head down and working,” he said. “Working is a distraction from everything.”
The season ended with questions about LeBron’s future, but Bronny made clear he hopes they get another year together.
“However long he can come back for, it’s always a pleasure being around him,” Bronny said.
