In a performance that reminded everyone of his game-changing potential, Mitchell Robinson stood out as a force on both ends of the court during the Knicks’ Game 5 clash.
Despite playing just 22 minutes, Robinson delivered a highly efficient and impactful outing, tallying 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds – eight of them on the offensive glass. His energy and physicality were a bright spot in an otherwise frustrating night for New York.
Peter Botte of The New York Post noted that Robinson’s presence in the paint was dominant, as he created second-chance opportunities and altered shots defensively, giving the Knicks a much-needed boost when they were struggling to find consistency elsewhere.
“I thought Mitch gave us a good lift, good energy,” said head coach Tom Thibodeau. “The rebounding was good enough. Defense was good enough. Our turnovers hurt us, so we gotta clean that up.”
Thibodeau’s praise highlighted Robinson’s relentless effort, particularly on the offensive boards where his work created extra possessions and disrupted Detroit’s defensive rhythm.
Time and again, the player fought through contact to secure rebounds or tap the ball out to teammates, extending plays and giving the Knicks second looks at the basket.
Yet, despite Robinson’s standout showing, it wasn’t enough to tip the balance. New York’s carelessness with the ball, particularly in high-pressure situations, proved costly. The Knicks committed a series of untimely turnovers that helped Detroit capitalize and eventually seize control in the latter stages of the game.
“Turnovers really made the difference,” Thibodeau emphasized. “We played hard, but we gave up too many possessions. Mitch did his part, but we all have to be sharper.”
Robinson’s performance served as a silver lining – a reminder of how valuable he can be when healthy and locked in. As the series continues, the Knicks will hope he maintains that level of impact while the rest of the team finds a way to reduce errors and convert energy into wins.
