FC Bayern Munich guard Nick Weiler-Babb has been named the 2024–25 EuroLeague Best Defender, becoming the first player in club history to earn the award.

The honor, decided by a vote of EuroLeague head coaches, recognizes Weiler-Babb’s defensive impact across the entire regular season.

Weiler-Babb led all players in steals with 52, averaging 1.6 per game, while also topping all guards in rebounding at 4.2 per night.

His physicality, ability to guard multiple positions, and on-ball pressure made him a central piece in Bayern’s return to the postseason for the first time since 2022.

Now in his fifth consecutive season with Bayern, the 28-year-old has developed into the team’s defensive captain and a consistent assignment for the opposing team’s best perimeter scorers.

According to EuroLeague data, Weiler-Babb was responsible for over 22% of Bayern’s total steals, anchoring a defensive unit that routinely overachieved against top-tier offenses.

Despite Bayern entering the season with modest expectations, their defensive consistency played a key role in securing a playoff berth.

Weiler-Babb finished ahead of Real Madrid’s Walter Tavares in the final vote tally, with AS Monaco’s Alpha Diallo, Panathinaikos’ Jerian Grant, and Olympiacos guard Thomas Walkup rounding out the top five.

Additional votes went to players such as Joel Bolomboy (Crvena Zvezda), Arnas Butkevicius (Zalgiris), Alessandro Pajola (Virtus Bologna), and Andre Roberson (ASVEL).

The Best Defender Trophy is one of several annual EuroLeague honors handed out following the regular season, including the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy (won by Kendrick Nunn of Panathinaikos) and the Rising Star award (awarded to Paris Basketball’s Nadir Hifi).
