Brooklyn Nets center Nic Claxton revealed that he played through lingering back issues throughout the entire season, but fortunately, he doesn’t anticipate needing surgery to address the discomfort.

Speaking candidly after the season, Claxton acknowledged that the problem hasn’t gone away yet, but he’s optimistic that the offseason will give him the time he needs to recover properly.

“I still need to get right. It’s still bothering me, honestly. But we got the whole offseason,” Claxton said, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “I was still able to play 70 games, so that’s a blessing.”

Despite the nagging pain, the player managed to stay remarkably durable, appearing in 70 games – something he considers a positive takeaway from the year. Now, with the season behind him, his focus is squarely on getting healthy.

“I have time to lock in on it this summer. I’m going to get it right. I’ve got a plan. No surgeries or anything though,” he added, emphasizing a non-invasive approach to recovery.

The 25-year-old big man has continued to grow as a defensive anchor for Brooklyn, and keeping him healthy will be key to the Nets’ plans moving forward – especially as he nears free agency this summer.

Claxton has played 6 seasons for the Nets. He has averaged 10.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in 311 regular-season games.
