Josh Kroenke, owner of the Denver Nuggets, recently addressed rumors suggesting that he would prevent a trade involving forward Michael Porter Jr. during a Monday press conference. Kroenke’s response rejected the notion that he or the Kroenke family would stand in the way of a deal for Porter.

The accusation surfaced amid speculation that Denver’s leadership was unwilling to part with Porter, despite previous trade rumors. However, Kroenke quickly dismissed these reports, calling them “completely false.” He emphasized that the Nuggets organization remains open to making moves that would improve the team.

“I’m incredibly proud of Michael,” Kroenke began, reflecting on the player’s journey. “He’s overcome multiple back surgeries, setbacks, and personal challenges to remain a key contributor for us.” Porter, now 26, has proven resilient through his career, both on and off the court.

Kroenke went further, noting that while the team values Porter’s contributions, no player is safe from potential trades if it benefits the franchise. “We’re always open to improving the team, and there’s no player off-limits in that pursuit,” he said.

Porter averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game during the 2024-25 regular season. He is currently in the third year of his five-year, $179 million contract. The young forward has remained a crucial piece of Denver’s lineup, contributing significantly to their success.

The rumors about the Nuggets’ reluctance to trade Porter were partly fueled by reports that suggested the Kroenke family’s personal ties to the forward, dating back to their shared history at the University of Missouri. The connection between Porter and the ownership group reportedly adds an emotional layer to any potential trade discussions.

Despite these strong ties, Kroenke made it clear that his priority remains the team’s success, not any individual’s sentimental value. “We’re focused on maximizing the group we have, and I don’t make trade decisions unless I see full organizational cohesion,” he stated.

As the Nuggets continue to navigate the season, Porter remains an integral part of their championship aspirations. Whether he stays in Denver long-term or finds a new home remains uncertain, but for now, his place with the team appears secure.
