Rudy Gobert remains the anchor of Minnesota’s defense, and his presence in the paint continues to offer the Timberwolves a path back to the elite form that defined them last season.
As Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reports, the Wolves led the league in defensive efficiency a year ago. This season, however, their performance on that end has been more inconsistent, slipping to sixth overall.
Despite the drop-off, Gobert has been stepping up as the team nears the playoffs, taking on a more vocal and active leadership role. His influence is being felt more and more, both on and off the court.
“I just try to set the tone,” the big man said.
“I know that when I do that, it’s contagious for the team. For me, it’s really important to do it for the first minute of the game to the last and in practice every day and in the weight room. Wherever I’m at, I try to lead by example.”
Gobert has played 12 seasons for the Jazz. He has averaged 12.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 824 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 3 All-Star games and has won 4 Defensive Player of the Year awards.
