Now that the transfer portal has opened, thousands of hopeful athletes are ready to ditch their current squads and sign with a new team. This year’s portal has been busier than most other years and today we’re looking at how the Missouri Tigers could benefit.

The Missouri Tigers in 2025

Before we get into their future prospects, let’s take a look at how the team is doing today. They rocketed into the 2023-24 season with a .576 winning percentage – a record for the team. This momentum didn’t last for long, once they suffered a string of losses and placed 14th in the 2024 SEC tournament. Then, in the first round of this year’s March Madness, Mizzou entered at 6th seed and suffered an upset defeat by the 11th seed Drake Bulldogs.

If you’re a Mizzou fan, you can’t follow them through March Madness. The good news is that there’s always next year, now that Missouri is set to allow sports betting in late 2025. Using aggregate services, you can get ahead of the game by finding the best betting apps in Missouri available at day one with sign-up bonuses. Then, when the Tigers enter March Madness in 2026, you can back them and their (hopefully) successful brush with the transfer portal this summer.

Who is Leaving the Tigers?

The transfer portal cuts both ways – just as new talent comes in from new teams, current talent can also sign to move away from the Tigers. Three Mizzou players have decided to leave the team this year – junior forward Aidan Shaw, redshirt freshman guard JV Brown, and redshirt freshman wing Danny Stephens.

Shaw’s loss will be felt after he was one of the Tigers who played in every single 2023-24 game. He led Mizzou with 36 blocks during that time, so their defensive capabilities may suffer as a result of losing Shaw and JV Brown.

Who is Joining the Tigers?

As for who’s becoming a Tiger, Jevon Porter of the Loyola Marymount Lions has committed to a transfer. The nearly 7-foot tall forward comes from a family of basketball talent, most notably Michael Porter Jr. Before he became part of the Denver Nuggets’ dream team, Michael was one of the top prospects in 2017 while playing for Mizzou. The other Porters – Jontay and Cierra – have also spent time playing for Mizzou basketball.

Due to these family ties, it was widely speculated that Jevon was considering the Tigers as his transfer destination. The confirmation came soon after, so now the Tigers are set to get a replacement for the outgoing Aidan Shaw. Porter arrives with a 12.5 point average with Loyola, plus 7.2 for rebounds and 1.9 for assists per game.

Mizzou has also reportedly contacted other players to see if they’re willing to step into the transfer portal, like Nevada Wolf Pack forward Nick Davidson, USC Trojan guard Isaiah Elohim, and East Tennessee State Buccaneers’ point guard Quimari Peterson. However, there’s no official indication yet that these players will join the Tigers.
