Kevin Love has weighed in on the debate surrounding Cooper Flagg’s potential after sports analyst Dan Patrick suggested that a career similar to Love’s might be considered a disappointment.

Patrick’s remark prompted Love to share his perspective on social media. The five-time All-Star made it clear that he sees Flagg as an elite prospect with a higher ceiling than his own.

“For those who will take this as a shot at me…I don’t take it as such,” Love tweeted. “I was pure skill & will. Cooper is far more talented than I ever was and if he stays healthy will have a far better career. He could very well have a statue by the time he’s finished. I’m a HUGE fan.”

Flagg, widely projected as the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has been dominant in his freshman season at Duke. The 6-foot-9 forward is averaging 19 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 30.3 minutes per game while showcasing his versatility on both ends of the floor.

Love, now 36 and in his 17th NBA season, is playing a limited role with the Miami Heat. The former No. 5 overall pick has built an accomplished career, earning two All-NBA selections and winning an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

Patrick’s comment raised the question of expectations for Flagg, considering Love’s accolades. With five All-Star appearances and a pivotal role in Cleveland’s historic 3-1 comeback against the Golden State Warriors, Love’s career is one many players would envy.

However, Flagg’s potential as a two-way player with elite athleticism and playmaking ability has led to comparisons with some of the game’s all-time greats. His defensive instincts and all-around skill set have scouts projecting him as a franchise-altering talent.
