Anthony Davis is making strides in his recovery from a left adductor strain and has taken a key step toward his return to the Dallas Mavericks’ lineup.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Davis participated in his second round of 5-on-5 practice with the Texas Legends, the Mavericks’ G League affiliate. The team assigned him there to ramp up his workload before he rejoins the main roster.

Davis has been sidelined since February 7, when he suffered the injury during his Dallas debut after being acquired in a blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic. In that game, he posted 26 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists, leading the Mavericks to a 116-105 win over the Houston Rockets.

Dallas has struggled in his absence, going 1-9 in its last 10 games and falling to 11th in the Western Conference with a 33-37 record. The Phoenix Suns, who hold the same record, recently overtook them in the standings.

In addition to Davis, Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford have also been working with the Texas Legends as part of their injury recoveries. However, they are starting with 3-on-3 drills while Davis progresses through full-contact scrimmages.

The Mavericks have been dealing with multiple injuries, including the loss of Kyrie Irving to a torn ACL, further complicating their playoff push. With Davis nearing a return, Dallas hopes to regain momentum in the final stretch of the regular season.
